Automatic Out-of-the-Box Setup:
The moment you activate Filevue, it automatically creates and publishes a fully functional client portal page at /portal/. You do not need to write code or configure shortcodes — simply create your first client in the WordPress admin and share their credentials.
Optional Custom Placement:
If you prefer to embed the portal on a custom page or template instead, add the shortcode:

Where are uploaded files stored?

All uploaded files are stored directly on your own WordPress hosting server inside your site’s uploads directory (
wp-content/uploads/client-files/). Filevue does not upload or sync your files with any third-party app, external cloud provider, or SaaS storage service — giving you full ownership, privacy, and control over your business assets. -
Where do clients log in?

Filevue automatically creates a portal page at
/portal/on activation. You can also place the[client_files]shortcode on any page of your choice. -
Can clients see each other’s files?

No. Each client has an isolated portal session and can only access documents explicitly uploaded to their account or shared with them.

How does project sharing work?

An administrator can share a project from one client with one or more other clients. The target clients see the project and its files in their portal in read-only mode (uploads, deletions, and acknowledgments on shared files are disabled).

Can clients upload their own files?

Yes. Clients can upload files directly into their assigned folders from the portal. Administrators can toggle upload permissions per project or client.

How does document acknowledgment work?

When document acknowledgment is enabled, clients or staff can click an acknowledgment button inside the document preview modal. The system records who acknowledged the document along with a timestamp.

Can I customize the portal appearance?

Yes. Basic button and accent colors can be adjusted in Filevue > Settings. For comprehensive white-label styling, custom typography, custom CSS, and email branding, upgrade to Filevue Pro.

What happens to data upon plugin removal?

By default, Filevue preserves your data during updates and deactivation. If you wish to remove all files and records on deletion, enable the Delete data on uninstall option in Filevue settings before deleting the plugin.

What should I do if I encounter an HTTP 406 (Not Acceptable) error?
-
HTTP 406 responses are triggered by hosting Web Application Firewalls (such as ModSecurity) inspecting URL requests. Filevue automatically transliterates uploaded filenames and handles credentials safely via POST bodies. If your hosting firewall still flags legitimate requests, contact your hosting provider to whitelist the triggered rule or add an exception for
/wp-admin/admin-ajax.phpand/wp-admin/admin-post.php.
